Green Philosophy
At Visual String, the only thing we're more passionate about besides software is where we live. We love Idaho and love the city that we've made our corporate home: Meridian (map). So, we decided to follow our passion with what we call our "Green Philosophy". It's taped it to our company refrigerator and is on every desk. Here it is:
- First do, then say: The loudest advocates for change are those people who shine as an example for others. You can open your mouth, but if your words don't follow actions, then you'll never be heard.
- Small changes leads to big changes: Replace a lightbulb, correct your tire pressure, and look for low-to-no emmission transportation. As the Chinese proverb goes: The seed includes all the possibilities of the tree.
- Everyday is "Ride a Bike to Work" day: In 2008, we logged 600 miles. Our goal in 2009: 1,000!
- Recycle: We support the Take Back initiative when we recycle computer equipment and follow ecological friendly practices for our purchases and trash.
- Live local: When we can, we support local business and farmers to keep our local economy strong.
- Give back: Visual String is committed to positive groups that make a difference. We support initiatives like KickStand (an Idaho group for startup businesses), Sustainable Haiti (a non-profit group that helps Haitians build their own business), and the Meridian Technical Charter High School's involvement in Skills USA, which prepares young people for study in technology and science.
